Heretic Coffee
In November of 2025, Heretic Coffee of Portland, Oregon, gained national attention for offering free breakfast burritos to people losing SNAP benefits, raising more than $360,000 in donations from around the world.
Josh White, owner of Heretic Coffee, risked his business to feed the hungry. That risk resulted in inspiring massive community support. Josh has plans to use funds to continue free meals and support local food aid organizations, demonstrating selflessness during a potential government benefit cut.
Josh hopes to expand his mission to include World Kitchen and other projects in Syria and Gaza.
“Food has been in some ways weaponized, and we want to give food to people because that is just a simple, basic human right. You have a bunch of Portlanders that are just coming together, saying, ‘What do you need?’ We have people showing up at 2 o’clock just to help clean after when all this is said and done.
